Brett Wilson is a Canadian investment banker, investor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is the author of Redefining Success: Still Making Mistakes and is most commonly known as the “Entrepreneur with a Heart” due to his significant philanthropic initiatives which include supporting organizations such as Kids’ Cancer Care, Youth with a Mission, and the David Foster Foundation. Brett is the co-founder of Wilson Mackie & Co. and FirstEnergy Capital Corp. and currently serves as the Chairman of Canoe Financial as well as Prairie Merchant Corporation. He has served as a panelist for CBC’s third season of the Dragons’ Den and, later, started his own television series titled Risky Business. Additionally, he has received countless awards and recognition for his exemplary work including being named as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 by Caldwell Partners in 1997, one of the Top 20 Deal Makers in Canada in 1999, and Top 10 Mergers & Acquisitions Specialists in Canada in 2000 - both by Globe & Mail.
Brett joins me today to discuss cancer, caring, carriages, and cannabis. He shares his personal experience with overcoming a cancer diagnosis and how he gained inspiration through folk music as well as his impressive collection of antique horse-drawn carriages. He also explains his unique approach to entrepreneurship, how he incorporates philanthropic work into his marketing strategy, and his perspective on the cannabis industry and how his views on cannabis have changed over the last decade.
