Cybercrime is on the rise. In the world of the Internet of Things (IoT), we are present online in volumes like never before. You may have already been subjected to an online crime or know someone that has suffered an attack from a cybercriminal. Online subscriptions can put your credit card details at risk and having an account with an online business can put your personal details and passwords in jeopardy. Every app and email address that you use can potentially be a vulnerability.
So what lessons can we learn from those who have fallen victim to cybercriminals? How can we protect ourselves, our assets, and our businesses from falling prey to online hackers?
Today, I share six things I have learned - and what you need to know - about cybersecurity. I highlight how everyone is exposed to the attacks of cyber criminals, personally and professionally. I reveal how greater interconnectivity has given cybercriminals more opportunities and how it has impacted the increasing cost of security and crime. I also share strategies you can use to protect yourself from cybercrime, such as strengthening passwords and adding extra layers of protection.
“The cost of crime and security is increasing. There are more opportunities and more vulnerabilities to be taken advantage of, so there is an increase in the cost - and the repercussions.” - Colleen O’Connell-Campbell
