Many wealthy Canadians are putting off creating a will for a variety of reasons and are becoming angels without an estate plan in place. Sometimes this occurs because they die unexpectedly or before their life expectancy. In other cases, Canadians are not making a will because they think this is something they only need to do when they are older. They may be avoiding having estate planning conversations with their family, don’t want to think about their demise, or believe that making a will is going take up too much time.

Today, I share what the late great musicians, Prince and Aretha Franklin, have in common with 50% of wealthy Canadians. I highlight why you may be putting off creating a will and reveal how Ontario's Succession Law Reform Act will deal with your wealth if you do not have an estate plan in place. I also discuss the areas that the Act will not take into account and share the things you need to think about when estate planning.

“Part of being intentional with your money management is also taking care of your estate plan.” - Colleen O’Connell-Campbell
