From advertisements and highlight reels to social media posts, we get bombarded with stories and messages of success. So often we can get awestruck, but the problem with these messages is that the stories look like overnight successes; they don’t show the years of hard work it took for success to come to fruition. How do you separate the real deal from the fluff? Whom do you look up to for inspiration? During the International Day of the Girl in October, I found the answers to these questions after attending a conversation with former U.S. First Lady, Michelle Obama.
In today’s episode, I share Michelle Obama’s insights and wisdom on striving for excellence, success, and remaining human. I discuss how to deal with criticism and emphasize the importance of defining success for yourself. I explain why it’s important to empathize with your audience. I also discuss why we need to be open to vulnerability and why we need to remember we’re human.
“As business owners, we all need to take center stage to grow our businesses. Once we put ourselves out there, we are open to criticism.” - Colleen O’Connell Campbell
