Today on 💫“I’m a Millionaire! So Now What?” 💫I want to talk about being charitable.
They say that “charity begins at home.” And for the most part, that’s true.
But 👀look around you 👀and I’ll bet you’ll see people in need. 💞
Here’s the rub: Charitable donations are nose-diving. In fact, predictions show 💸contributions will fall 💸by 30% by 2028. 🥺
Kelly Emery, my guest this week, is working to change that. She founded Troop, a needs marketplace, to help neighbours and businesses discover needs in their community.
Kelly wanted tech used for good, and Troop is now ranked in the top 100 of 2020 Canadian recovery projects. 👏🏆👏

Kelly Emery is driven to ensure technology is used for good. After a year of pandemic-driven economic anxiety for many MANY people, her company, Troop, is helping to fill the gaps that traditional charitable organizations simply don’t have the resources to fill. As a successful entrepreneur and experienced executive within the financial services industry, her mission is to help neighbours and businesses create meaningful local impact and create real “social good.”
A graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University’s business program, Kelly has been at the helm of a few tech companies prior to launching Troop. Through partnerships with charities and non-profits, Troop’s goal is to match local communities’ drive for purpose, as well as their capacity for generosity, starting with the fulfillment of local, everyday needs. Neighbours helping neighbours.
An avid traveller, Kelly jokes that she had to go all the way to Auckland, New Zealand (on one of two co-op exchange programs) to meet a guy from Burlington, Ontario. She describes herself thusly, “I'm a founder, I'm a mother of two amazing children. I'm a partner, sister, a daughter…a learner? And I'd say right now I'm very much on that journey of trying to answer that question, ‘who am I’?”
