The three sisters Mireille, Chantal, and Stéphanie Brunet are the second-generation owners of Michanie Construction Inc., a local Ottawa business that specializes in commercial and institutional construction and heritage restoration. They are the daughters of Jacques Brunet, the President and Founder of Michanie Construction Inc., and Ginette Brunet, who both co-manage the family business. Established in 1997, Michanie Construction Inc. is a bilingual company with 30 full-time employees and a network of 300 subcontractors. Mireille, a former worker for the Federal Government, currently works in accounting for Michanie. Chantal started her career in the family business as a laborer and is now the company’s General and Project Manager. After selling her salon, Stéphanie currently serves as Michanie Construction’s HR Director.

Mireille, Chantal, and Stéphanie join me today to share their experiences of running a family business. They illustrate how they balance family and business dynamics and how they separate family challenges. They describe the different generational challenges they face as a multi-generational family business and explain how they work through it. They also explain how being part of an organization for business owners in the construction industry benefit the company, as well as share their vision for Michanie’s business growth.

“Maintaining high respect and good relationships is key. The construction industry is so small - if you damage a relationship, it might hurt for a long time.” - Chantal Regimbald
