Sherry Deutschmann is the CEO and founder of BrainTrust, a peer-to-peer learning organization for women entrepreneurs, as well as Sunset Ventures, an angel investment firm that supports women-owned businesses. Before she started these companies, Sherry founded LetterLogic, a company she grew to $40 million before selling it in 2016. She attributes LetterLogic’s robust growth in putting the needs of her employees before those of the customer or shareholder. For her efforts and generosity, Sherry was named White House Champion of Change by President Obama in 2016. Her book, Lunch With Lucy: Maximize Your Profits by Investing In Your People, will be available in March 2020.

Sherry joins me today to share how investing in employees maximized the profit of her first company, LetterLogic. She describes how she pivoted from a corporate career to start her first business in her basement. She reveals the inspiration behind her philosophy of putting her employees first before customers and shareholders. She illustrates how the culture of generosity and profit-sharing not only increased her company’s productivity but also gained clients. She also highlights and encourages the importance of women helping other women in business.

“The profit-sharing program changed employees’ financial health. It drove everybody to make better decisions, to be engaged, and to be vested in the company’s success.” - Sherry Deutschmann
